Now, all we need are some babies.  Yep, that is right!  We have a pregnant mama at our house!

Let me introduce… Clover.

Clover is a very tiny beagle, standing only about 12 inches tall.  She is very pregnant and her tiny little legs make it difficult for her to move.  Her temperature indicates that she will be delivering those babies any minute now!

This poor girl sort of resembles a bowling ball with a head.  She is panting profusely and extremely uncomfortable, with her belly stretched to its max.

Last Sunday, we picked up Clover from Animal Control.  She was found as a stray, already very pregnant and taken to the shelter.  But, Clover is a very lucky little girl (hence her name), because she ended up at a shelter with a great staff that work very hard to find safe, loving placements for as many animals as they possibly can.  They sent out a desperate plea to rescue groups looking for  foster home to care for her.  When the other groups were not able to take her, AARF stepped in, moved several dogs to other foster homes (there is always room for one more dog), and agreed to bring her into the program..r .. and I am the lucky foster mom.  (I think this must be what it feels like to be a Grandma!  I am so excited.)

Sadly, this means that Eve went to another foster home.  I am afraid she is not missing me one bit though.  She is with a great foster mom and from what I hear, she is having a great time.  She finally has a playmate that can keep up with her.  The two are playing nonstop and keeping each other entertained.  I, on the other hand have the quiet, calm house that a birthing mom needs (as do I).

I say that Clover is lucky because many shelters would not go to the lengths to save her that this one did.  With limited resources and space, shelters simply cannot accommodate a pregnant momma, much less her puppies.  With no where for her to go, her options were grim.  Now, her future and the future of her unborn babies is bright… I just wish they would get her already!
