And the Honeymoon is Over

There seems to be a set period of a time when a dog first comes into the program and appears to be awesome.  In AARF, we call this the “honeymoon period”.  It generally lasts 10 to 14 days and during this time, the dog behaves perfectly, is housebroken, quiet, well-mannered… everything one could want from a foster.  Then, the dog settles in and his/her true personality comes out.

Eve’s honeymoon is OVER!  She has learned how to use her vocal cords to pull at my heart strings and let her out of her crate.  (She is supposed to still be resting).  But a few little whimpers, that sound like an injured chick, and I am all over her with affection and love.  We are now working on housebreaking and teaching her proper items for chewing on.

This morning, we went for a recheck on her leg.  The Vet says that it is healing well.  In four more weeks, we will take her to have the pins removed.  The fur on her head is still missing, where she had an abrasion.  Hopefully, that will heal quickly.  A few weeks after her next surgery, she should be ready to find a forever home.

She really is doing very well though.  Still very quiet, she almost never barks.  She is learning out to tease the big dogs and beg them to play with her.  Eli plays with her through the kennel.  It is quite adorable.  Eve is also always full of kisses to share.
