A Fighter… Still Looking For A Home

Remember this guy???

From this post???  I mentioned his story in that post, but never shared photos.

Charlie made his television debute yesterday and I thought it was about time to show off his photos!

Check out the news report from last night here:  http://www.myfox8.com/news/wghp-dog-found-with-embedded-collar-now-ready-for-adoption-20110718,0,7828415.story

His story from the previous post, with photos added.  These photos were taken after the Vet had cleaned out his wounds and cared for him for at least a day.  Our best guess is that he was tied with something cloth that rotted into his flesh, causing additional infection.

Charlie White (because there is also a Charlie Brown) was confiscated by Animal Control from an abuse situation.  As a puppy, his former owner placed a collar around his neck and put him on a chain in the backyard.  (Have I mentioned how cruel chains are?)  As Charlie grew, the collar did not.  Over time, his collar became embedded in the soft skin of his neck and no one noticed.  By the time Animal Control was notified, the collar was so deep within his flesh that it had to be surgically removed.

Charlie spent several weeks recovering from his injuries at a Vet’s office.  Miraculously, a small indentation in his fur is all that remains of his scars.  His esophagus suffered some trauma and he has to be fed in a special way (spreading it out over a large area to slow down his eating).  Otherwise, he has made a full recovery.

Charlie has been with AARF since January.  He is now fully healed, although needs a little extra care at feeding time due to some trouble swallowing, likely a lasting injury from his injury.

An energetic husky mix, Charlie is really fun to watch run.  He enjoys playing with other dogs and absolutely LOVES water.  In fact, he and the volunteers at AARF have a special arrangement… he gets two buckets.  The bucket at the back of his cage is strictly for drinking.  The one at the front of his kennel is a “foot bucket”.  As soon as the “foot bucket” hits the ground, he splashes and kicks the water all over the place.  Somehow, he manages to abide by this rule.  For more information, check out his PetFinder page here:  http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19527778

The photos of his neck brought me to tears. How can people be so cruel to animals? At least he is in very good hands now.
