In Case You Were Wondering…

In case any of you are wondering how everyone in my crazy household is doing these days, here is a little update on the furbabies that run my life.

Spirit – God’s Little Reminder to Have Faith

I am thrilled to say that Spirit is doing just great.  She has regressed a little since having to share her home with more fosters and having less training time every day.  However, she continues to ask for attention, jumps up onto the couch to cuddle and goes right in her kennel when asked.  She is quickly growing up into a beautiful dog.

Spirit, all grown up!

She is still a foster with the Humane Society and will go to the Adoption Center as soon as there is room.  In the meantime, she attend an Adoption Fair where she let various volunteers walk her on a leash, had numerous people petting her and even let me put an “adopt me” vest on her back.

Last week, she went to see the Vet for what turned out to be stress-induced mange.  (Apparently I am not the only one that gets finds our home a little chaotic!)  She spent the entire day at the Humane Society and did great socializing with everyone and other dogs.

She will never be a “typical” dog, but she is certainly going to make a great pet for the right family.

Romi and Michelle – A Lesson in Patience

To call these girls a handful is to say that Charlie Sheen is only a little crazy.  They keep me running every minute.  They have attended several Adoption Fairs and even received a number of applications.  So far, all of those were denied… only the best for my girls!  There are currently a few open applications still being processed – fingers crossed that one of them turns out to be a perfect home.

Romi: "I know I am beautiful!"

Romi is really growing into a beautiful girl.  She is feisty and extremely entertaining.  She much prefers to be with me than the other dogs and does everything she can to avoid going out and leaving my side.  She is very stubborn and makes me do a little dance to get her into her kennel (I swear she smiles and giggles when I try to catch her).  She is going to be the perfect addition to a family looking for a shining star to fill the spotlight.

Michelle is a still a total cuddle bug.  She used to be much bigger that Romi, but they are much closer in size these days.  Michelle has lost most of her baby wrinkles (except around her face) and looks more like a baby hippo every day.  Michelle likes to go and play with the other dogs, but she just hates being alone.  She is still shy in new situations, but as soon as she warms up, she walks right in and fills up a person’s heart in an instant – she definitely is all over mine!

Michelle: "Bigger is Better!"

If one of these girls doesn’t get adopted shortly, we will be turning one over to another foster home.  At a certain point, it becomes important to separate littermates so that they can grow and develop on their own, without becoming too dependent upon each other.  These girls have reached that point and we will have to let one of them go soon.

Watson – A Gift of Fun

Watson is so much fun!  His brother, Doc, was adopted a few weeks ago.  He was a little sad for a few days, but has bounced right back into full-on puppy action.  He LOVES to play with the other dogs, despite their enormous size difference.  Watson will run up, bite at their legs and then roll over on his back in total submission.  He carries tennis balls in his mouth and teases the other dogs with them – throwing the balls right at their feet – even though his head is about the same size as the ball.  He also loves being held and getting a good petting.

It really amazes me to think that he was just over two pounds when we brought him home.  In just a few short weeks, he has gained almost 18 pounds!  His sister, Scout, is also still up for adoption.  She still towers over him in size.  But, put the two of them together and it is total cuteness overload!

Love those eyes!

Watson received his first application this weekend.  Whether or not it will go through is yet to be determined.  There is no rush – I love this little man!

Tally – A Reminder To Appreciate Every Moment

Tally is still looking for a home, one of the longest-term fosters in the Humane Society’s history.  She attended an Adoption Fair a few weeks ago and got a little attention.  She has also had some interest on the website.  So far, nothing has worked out.  I know that eventually she will find a home and that will be a very difficult day for me, indeed.

My Little Angel

She deserves better than I can give her, with too many fosters and not enough time for her.  I just wish I could tattoo my name and number on her side… just in case she ever needs me once she is gone!

L.C. – A Tease

L.C. (Little Chaser) is quite the dog.  She is extremely loyal.  I now take her out to our front yard where there is no fence… and we play fetch… for hours!  This dog who eluded capture for twenty minutes on the side of the road now cries when she cannot get to me.  She loves to play tug of war with knotted ropes, lounge on the couch and balls of all varieties.  She goes right into her kennel on command, but each morning, I wake to find her sleeping at the foot of the stairs next to the baby gate… as close as she can get to our room.  Despite her Houdini-like ability to escape her crate, I find the sentiment enduring.

She was tested for heartworms last week and I held my breath for the results, terrified that she might be positive.  So, I did a little happy dance right in the middle of a restaurant when the Vet called with the negative results.  She got her first shots last week and appears to be completely healthy.  She did not have a microchip.

New to the Crew

This week, she will be evaluated for the AARF Adoption Program and we will determine exactly where she will have the best and fastest chance to find a home.
