Our Little Girl Is Growing Up…

FAST!

The last few days, I felt like something was off with Eve.  I couldn’t put my finger on it, but her leg seemed to be bothering her more than usual.  I took these photos yesterday and she was sitting on it funny… you see what I mean?

In order to ease my worry, I scheduled an early recheck and ended up with a New Year’s Resolution… trust my instincts more often!

Eve was schedule to return to Dr. Schmunk in two weeks, at which time she would undergo surgery and have the pin in her leg removed.  This morning he examined her and couldn’t believe how quickly she was healing.  As the broken leg heals, the pin starts to grow into the bone it has set.  He immediately set her up with an x-ray and it showed that only a tiny part of the pin was still protruding from the bone.  As is, they will have a difficult time removing it, but in two weeks, it would have been far worse.  Whew – what a lucky catch!  Eve stayed with the Vet today, he is going to operate on her at his first opportunity.  I will call him in the morning for an update.

In the meantime, can I just tell you what a good girl this puppy is?  She is just amazing!  We sat in the Vet’s office for over and hour.  Because she has only one vaccination and a place like that can carry lots of dangerous stuff for a puppy, she had to sit on my lap.  The entire hour, Eve sat with her back against me and her legs out, just like a very well-behaved child.  As other dogs walked by, she would cock her head to the side and greet them with a tag that banged against my legs.  Every person that offered her a pet, she quickly thanked with a big kiss and any time she got a little restless, she was happy to take the rawhide from my hand for a bit.

(Sorry for the quality of those photos, my camera phone should read cave art, it is so old).  Eve has been an absolute delight to foster.  She is very quiet, making only little chirping noises when she is upset.  Considering that she is puppy, she is doing very well at not chewing on things she isn’t supposed to.  However, we do keep her well-stocked on bones and toys because she is teething (last night, I found her tooth on the couch… yep, that is a photo of it).

She loves to spoon on the couch and snooze with her mama when it gets late.  Eve has already learned how to sit and loves treats. Housebreaking has a ways to go, but she is getting there and very eager to please.  All in all, I couldn’t ask for a better foster baby!
